We’ve had an intense cold going through our house this week. One of my sons got it Friday then by Sunday we were dropping like dominos. My middle son, myself, then the toddler. Hopefully not my husband next (ever heard of “man flu”….it’s extreme haha)!
(even though I’m used to giving lots and lots of attention having them home with time all of the time as a homeschool mama, adding sickness adds an extra level of intensity. If you’re a parent yourself you know what I mean, right?
You also know there isn’t a lot of time to get life done or anything extra. And when you’re sick yourself just resting is a challenge even though you need it.
But here’s my point – even though it’s been a different level of constantly doing something I still have this underlying feeling
That I’m still not doing enough.
And that I should be using my time wisely to be productive or get something done.
And to be perfectly honest, I literally had the thought “well since we’re not really doing anything right now I should start painting the kitchen cabinets”.
Until my awareness kicks in and says:
“Ehhhh,,,,excuse me??????? Seriously are you kidding? You’re sick, you feel like absolute garbage and here you are with this deep rooted need to use every minute and every hour for productivity. Because you have a belief that there isn’t enough time and you found some and now you’re trying to fill it with work and doing something because that makes you feel good and you’re a get things done person because (here’s the kicker) it’s never enough and you equate productivity with success.”
Woah. Full stop. Deep breath. Time to take a deeper look at this.
Now, I’ve been taking a deeper look within myself, my patterns and the repeating themes that show up for me for the last 15 years. I’m constantly trying to break free from my conditioning and subconscious thoughts. It’s part of the work that I do in my program Bloom, Become the Woman You Want to Be (you can find out more about that here).
Bringing awareness to this place within yourself is where the change begins – we can recondition ourselves from the inside out.
So here are the simple steps I took in that moment to create a shift:
I found myself drifting away in thought. Those thoughts were rooted in old patterned behaviors and ways of thinking about self-worth that I have already identified as negative for myself.
My awareness of the patterns that don’t serve me allowed me to catch them before I went full force into painting mode.
With that awareness I took a breath and sifted through what was happening for me and found the realizations of those subconscious beliefs and patterns that are old and not for me anymore.
I created a new thought and repeated it like a mantra: I am able to rest. Self care is a priority for me. Positive mental health is a priority for me. Now is the time to heal, rest and recover so I can be the best version of myself. I am enough without doing, creating or producing anything. I am enough.
In the matter of a few minutes I was able to create a huge shift for myself, let go of the old thoughts and repeating patterns and move into an incredible supportive thought pattern that supports how I want to treat myself.
This work isn’t easy but it is so freeing, enlightening and worth it.
If you are struggling with this and don’t know how to get out of the never ending loop – believe me I get it. And I’m here for you.
If you’re on the path to healing you’re doing fabulous work and I’m so happy for you.
It’s not easy to break the cycle. It takes lots of work, awareness and honestly it’s a never ending process!
We are deep beings with so many memories, experiences and thoughts and having the awareness and process to heal ourselves as we go deeper and further on our path is why we need the tools like this to use when we need.
Next time you have this type of situation happen to you, use the easy steps that I did and let me know how you were able to create the big shift. I know you can do it.
Always cheering you on.
PS. If you’re ready to take the next step just hit REPLY. My program Bloom, Become the Woman You Want to Be is open.
It’s through this exact process that I take women through in Bloom that have taken me through to heal emotional limitations, break through subconscious barriers and create an incredible mindset that helps me create the life I want to live because I know the kind of person that I want to be. I’d love to see you there.
